LGBTQ+ Center at Kenneth Young

The Kenneth Young Center is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit that works to foster healthier communities. The LGBTQ+ Center at Kenneth Young, offers youth programming, advocacy opportunities, professional trainings, and community events throughout the year. Elgin Police LGBTQ+ Liaison Officer Program

The Elgin Police Department is committed to supporting the LGBTQ+ community. This is inclusive of department-wide training in LGBTQ+ issues, updating police policies, a designated non-binary cell, & proper use of pronouns. EPD hosts a teen group every Monday at the YWCA at 6:30 p.m., and is a member of the Kane County Networking Group & the Kane County Workplace Inclusion, Diversity, & Equity Group. EPD participates in parade and outreach opportunities as well. National Domestic Violence Hotline

The National Domestic Violence Hotline is a free, confidential, 24/7 hotline that provides lifesaving tools and immediate support to enable victims to find safety and live lives free of abuse. Callers at 1-800-799-SAFE (7233) can expect highly trained, experienced advocates to offer compassionate support, crisis intervention information, educational services and referral services in more than 200 languages. Love Is Respect

Love Is Respect’s purpose is to engage, educate, and empower young people to prevent and end abusive relationships. Highly-trained advocates offer support, information, and advocacy to young people who have questions or concerns about their dating relationships. They also provide information and support to concerned friends and family members, teachers, counselors, service providers, and members of law enforcement. Free and confidential phone, live chat, and texting services are available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Dating Matters

Dating Matters is a comprehensive teen dating violence prevention model developed by Centers for Disease Control (CDC) to stop teen dating violence before it starts. Dating Matters is an evidence-based teen dating violence prevention model that includes prevention strategies for individuals, peers, families, schools, and neighborhoods. It focuses on teaching 11-14 year olds healthy relationship skills before they start dating and on reducing behaviors that increase the risk for dating violence, like substance abuse and sexual risk-taking.

That's Not Cool

That’s Not Cool is a national public initiative that partners with young people to help raise awareness & bring educational tools to communities to address dating violence, unhealthy relationships, & digital abuse.The program is built on the belief that young people must lead the way to change online, in their schools, & in their communities. The program seeks to lift the voices of the most silenced & marginalized communities including LGBTQI+, youth living with disabilities, and youth of color by providing tools, resources, & technical assistance to adult allies working with youth leaders or young people experiencing dating violence.

Cook County Child Advocacy Center

The Children's Advocacy Center of North and Northwest Cook County serves the Cook County portions of Elgin. This center, based in Hoffman Estates, serves more than 1,000 children & their families each year with the caring support they need to move forward with their lives and heal from abuse and is staffed by 25 employees including a part-time Prevention Specialist. Kane County Child Advocacy Center

The Kane County Child Advocacy Center serves the Kane County portions of Elgin. The KCCAC is committed to providing a safe, child-focused environment for child victims of sexual assault & sexual abuse as well as to ensuring thorough & victim-sensitive investigations & prosecutions. A team that includes a prosecutor, investigator, DCFS child protection investigator, social workers, & a victim advocate collaborate on each case to minimize the stress on the child & the child's family as well as to ensure that effective medical treatment & counseling are available to each child who experiences abuse.
